My fave gig last week was Valerie June & Booker T Jones — mostly because I didn’t know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised.
I was impressed by Orphaned Land last Saturday at The Espy. Metal, with a twist of politics and humour.
Intro to Brother … (video footage from the gig)

Last year, at SxSW, I remember seeing Jared and the Mill playing an impromptu gig on the street. They were impressive.
And they’re really nice guys too …
Now, I’m a bit late with this news (this happened on Saturday) but just in case you haven’t seen it yet …
Mason Endres was one of the victims of a car accident on Red River that left three people dead and nearly two dozen injured.
When one of her favorite bands, Jared and the Mill, heard she was in the hospital, they decided to play a special show for her.
day parties + showcases
For about a month, my inbox has been flooded with SxSW party and showcase invites. I held back tears as they flooded through, from Spin, Rolling Stone, Sonicbids, Asos, Aussie BBQ, Reeperbahn and more.
Do not miss out on these. Not only is there free food and drink, you will meet lots of interesting people and discover bands you wouldn’t otherwise have seen.
Next year, I’ll be RSVPing to those invites.
Later, M.x
Reminiscing:
Many more photos to come.

SxSW: The people you attend with. The people you meet. The people you catch up with. The people who love music as much as you do.
Here are some of the more “publishable” pics from SxSW 2013:
Damn! That was a fun few days … and then it was … over. At that stage, I actually thought I may move to Austin but then, well, … life happens!
Maybe next year. Rock on this LONG weekend 🙂 xo

So why the nostalgia? What will I miss mostly about SxSW?
The people.

I still haven’t decided which of my SxSW 2013 pics are “publishable” so here are some from SxSW 2009:

More tomorrow … have a great Saturday night y’all 🙂 xo
SxSW: Nostalgia! A mixed up series of blogs reflecting my mixed up emotions of wishing I was somewhere else.
It seems that one half of Melbourne’s rock n roll community are going to Golden Plains tonight … and the other half to SxSW.
This time last year, I too was on a plane to SxSW. Thinking back, I realised that I hadn’t even processed/published all my photos, especially since my laptop f***ed up as soon as I hit American shores.
I mean I had of course published galleries for Noise11.com, and Instagram!!! but I hadn’t blogged.

So why the nostalgia? What will I miss mostly about SxSW?
The people.
The speakers:
The panels such as the “Musical Milestones: Celebrating 50 Years Of The Beatles” we attended, featuring singer/songwriters Rodney Crowell, Robyn Hitchcock and Ron Sexsmith, and MTV Networks Executive Vice President/Editorial Director Bill Flanagan; and moderated by GRAMMY Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli.
The “secret” shows:
By the time I went back in 2013, there was something I really didn’t like – the ballots:
Last but definitely not least: the BANDS … much more to come regarding the bands!
I hate queues, I hate ballots, I hate being issued a photo pass and then not allowed to take photos. But once I was over all that, I loved SxSW.
More tomorrow …

I was asked to make my prints available for sale … so here they are – http://rocklust.smugmug.com/Music-Melbourne-Me-Exhibition/
Note I am still limiting these to twenty prints each.
One of my favourites … especially at the end of summer. So sad yet hopeful …
Lyrics:
Sight unseen, sadder seas
Summer song sung all along
Dragged across the seven seas
To the beach come follow me
Summer’s gone a summer song
You’ve wasted every day, every day
Cellophane, a grandma’s town
Summer’s letters on the ground
Seven pins, the fall begins
When the leaves burn, summer ends
Summer’s gone a summer song
You’ve wasted every day, every day
Summer’s gone, can’t wipe it off my hands
Write it in the sand, in the sand
Where’ve my heroes gone today?
Mick and Keith and Willie Mays
Broken windows trails outside
I can take you for a ride
Summer’s gone a summer song
You’ve wasted every day, every day
Summer’s gone, can’t wipe it off my hands
Write it in the sand, in the sand
In the sand
Summer’s gone a summer song
You’ve wasted every day, every day
Summer’s gone, can’t wipe it off my hands
Write it in the sand, in the sand
In the sand
In the sand
In the sand
In the sand
