“Someone I know is now someone I knew.
No, the sadness never fades …”

If you’re in a band, and you subscribe to Triple R during radiothon, you are in the running to score a photo shoot with me.
Last year, Summon the Birds won the prize. The shoot that eventuated was creative, productive and fun. It’s important as a photographer to know your subject so as to capture their essence as an individual and also, in this case, as a group.
I always want my photos to reflect the person, the band, the music.
Summon the Birds sent me their latest CD and links to some of their new material. After listening to their music, reading their lyrics, and doing some research into the themes/ideas of their songs, I had a meeting with the singer to workshop some ideas for the photo shoot.
Summon the Birds wanted an image that reflected their new material, specifically the song based on The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp by Rembrandt.
Discussion followed about whether it was possible with only four members and also how to incorporate the titles of the songs into the image. These are the results:
Thank you to fellow photographer, and great friend, Ros O’Gorman for assisting me on the day.
And thank you to Sydney Levin who edited the chosen three images into the final result.

Jason Michael Hurley: brazen! A man arrested for shoplifting razors from a Beverly Hills drugstore last month, initially reported as former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland, is an impostor. BHPD: OMG! Jason Michael Hurley had fooled police into thinking he was the troubled singer for nearly a month.
Scott Weiland: awesome! In a video posted on his fb page, Weiland said: “I just got reading something very interesting. A nice piece of fiction from TMZ saying that I was in jail and have been for a month. I’ve actually been touring, writing and recording my new album, at the studio we’re in right now, a Los Angeles studio. So all I have to say to our fans is whether you find it funny, or interesting, or whether you’re sad, don’t worry, don’t fret. It’s a lie. TMZ, you’ll be hearing from my attorneys. Thank you.”
I just love Scott Weiland and STP. Below are some pics I took of the band in 2010:

My music photo memory today is AC/DC. It follows on from yesterday’s blog post about photographing The Rolling Stones.
As I wrote about that experience, I was reminded of just how professional both bands, and their tour managers, were.
I was also reminded about how much both AC/DC and The Rolling Stones rocked.
I feel privileged to have been in the photo pit for both bands.
I’ll post my danger shots ~ EMINEM & Slipknot ~ soon.
