If you’re in a band, and you subscribe to Triple R during radiothon, you are in the running to score a photo shoot with me.
Last year, Summon the Birds won the prize. The shoot that eventuated was creative, productive and fun. It’s important as a photographer to know your subject so as to capture their essence as an individual and also, in this case, as a group.
I always want my photos to reflect the person, the band, the music.
Summon the Birds sent me their latest CD and links to some of their new material. After listening to their music, reading their lyrics, and doing some research into the themes/ideas of their songs, I had a meeting with the singer to workshop some ideas for the photo shoot.
Summon the Birds wanted an image that reflected their new material, specifically the song based on The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp by Rembrandt.

Discussion followed about whether it was possible with only four members and also how to incorporate the titles of the songs into the image. These are the results:

Thank you to fellow photographer, and great friend, Ros O’Gorman for assisting me on the day.
And thank you to Sydney Levin who edited the chosen three images into the final result.
